My first Run was 1988, the Tom Sullivan 10-K in Torrance
California. The Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon followed
shortly behind that in the same year but those two were
only because my father-in-law signed me up to run. I
then moved back to Boise and took a break from running.
But in 1994 a man handed me a copy of the “1994-1995
Tanglefoot Schedule”. So with a New Years resolution, I
attended the New Years resolution Fun Run at the
Discovery Center. From that point on, I ran a race
virtually every weekend on that schedule ( I even placed
in the Apple Blossom Fun run in Payette). Since then I
have run so many 5Ks and 10Ks I have lost count. But the
real fever didn’t catch me until I ran the Sawtooth
Relay in 1997.
Besides coaching for BOISE RunWalk I also directed the
first Prison Break Half, 5K, 10K event in 2007. Our
inaugural event proved to be a tremendous success with
one of the most dramatic start-line productions of the
region.

Anytime I pack for traveling, I seem to always forget
something, razor, socks, shampoo, sunglasses doesn’t
matter, I’ll always forget something, however I never
forget my running gear. I usually seek out the best
areas to run when I arrive at my destination and lace up
my running shoes shortly afterwards.
I have run in some of the greatest scenery, Wakiki
Beach, Diamond Head, Kona, Las Vegas Strip, Sawtooth
Mountains, Mt. Hood Oregon to Seaside Oregon, Griffith
Park California, Tempe River, Seattle, Houston, Redondo
Beach, just to mention a few. With all of those
locations under my treads, my favorite place to run is
still the Boise Greenbelt. I have realized that I enjoy
my running and the Greenbelt even more since I have
created some great friendships there while running with
other coaches and members of Boiserunwalk. Every
Saturday as I am getting up early, I think “Why”, but
within minutes as I am running the greenbelt and the sun
is rising, many of us can’t believe what others are
missing and it all becomes clear.
