Coach Mike Markley

Outstanding Coach
Award 2006 (pdf)
I started running in 1998 and loved it immediately. I ran numerous 5K
fun runs and eventually built up to
running my first Race to Robie Creek half-marathon in 2004. I was amazed
at what my body was
capable of doing. Since that time, I've focused on longer distances
(mostly half-marathons), and Boise
RunWalk has been a huge part of my training over the past couple years.
The late Steve Prefontaine once said,
"You have to wonder at times what
you're doing out there. Over
the years, I've given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it
always comes back to where it
started. It comes down to self-satisfaction and a sense of achievement."
I'm no Pre, but this sport has taught me a lot about overcoming
obstacles, testing my limits, and
achieving goals. My hope is that everyone who tries it experiences the
same thing I have, and I'm
honored to play a small part in that process as a coach with Boise
RunWalk. |
