Bob Walker
Competitive running since 1970

I am enjoying the opportunity
to work with all levels of walkers and
runners in our community. In our
BOISE
RunWalk family, I
share my knowledge and expertise
gained through the past
37 years of running.

Highlights
2002 High School Cross Country
Coach of the Year

High School State Championship
Big Sky Cross Country Championship
Boston Marathon in 1981 (2:29)
Twin Cities Marathon in 1991 (2:27)

I have been running and competing since 1970. As a way to "stay in shape" for basketball, I started running in high school. Running proved to be a better fit for my body type and size, so I continued in the sport. I ended up being pretty good at the sport and earned a two- mile state championship in high school, followed by four years in collegiate athletics with a Big Sky Cross Country Championship. I graduated in 1975 and immediately began my teaching career here in the Boise Valley. Continuous training and competing provided me with special memories, many here in the northwest. A few of my favorite races were the Boston Marathon in 1981 with a 2:29 finish and then Twin Cities Marathon in 1991 with 2:27 finish. A couple northwest favorites were Bloomsday and Barber to Boise.

With teaching also came additional opportunities to coach young athletes from grade school to high school. In addition to coaching track and cross country I also coached basketball. Another special memory of mine was being selected High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for District 7 in 2003.

Currently, I am teaching junior high in Boise while serving as the head coach for the cross country and track programs there. I continue to train and compete at a high level, running in many local and regional events. My goal with coaching in BOISE
Runwalk is to encourage, inspire and motivate anyone with a desire to get out and move. The benefits I have experienced from running are incredible, and I hope they can be experienced by others who are ready to give it a go.
