When I joined BOISE RunWalk
I had no idea of the benefits I'd
receive. I moved to Boise from a warm climate
and the training regime helped me acclimate
to a cold climate. I received motivation from the coaches and other group members and made lasting friendships that I am grateful for and
hold onto to this day. I have participated in numerous marathons since starting with
BOISE RunWalk and I utilize the knowledge
from this awesome group. My appreciation
goes to the people involved with
this organization - it is top notch!

Kimberly's Story
BOISE RunWalk has made this a terrific year.
A year ago I limped because of ankle weakness caused by being over-weight and nearly 200lbs. My first Saturday in the rain with BOISE RunWalk impressed me with everyone's positive energy and enthusiasm... but I still had huge doubts from a lifetime of  doubting myself. I had never
jogged in my life!

The coaches took us on our first 3 mile workout.
I was walking along and watched the group
get further and further ahead of me. Soon my
legs hurt... and my  ankles hurt, and now my
shins hurt!  Half-way into my workout I stopped,
and while standing still listening to my body, I experienced a "Come to Jesus" moment. I hurt! I cried! I could not  continue. I was embarrassed.

Then the coaches came to me with encouraging words and explained that I was doing "a good job". That was a powerful moment in my world!

My mind took over my body, moved the embarrassment aside, and got mad! Why had I
had let my body come to this!
THIS was the moment I decided to
take back my life. No more doubting,
and no more doubters expressing disbelief that
I belonged to a marathon training group.
It was time to step up and build the life that I wanted, on a body that was healthy and fit.

It was lots of work with
BOISE RunWalk! For the effort I
received wonderful gifts - Saturday morning sun rises... standing in the lake after long distances  with friends... sharing stories and learning
about everyone's lives... bag pipes from
across the river... and hearing myself
say later on in the season "we're only going
8 miles today". All of this before
I was usually out of bed for
breakfast at noon!

I lost 25 pounds this season and finished a 10k and a HALF MARATHON (13.1 miles!!!), and I'm free of leg and ankle pain, and I'm strong with endurance!

My very best moment in the
City of Trees Half Marathon was being able to "send the horses to the barn" the last five
miles, and run down Capital Blvd in the middle
of the road. "Watch out cars, its MY turn!".
Along the way those little green gremlins
began doubting me, asking "who the hell do you think you are"? This time I kicked their butts and all
the others too who ever doubted me, including myself. This was awesome.

Thank you to the BOISE RunWalk coaches and all the walkers and runners who were so supportive. You create the most amazingly energy of support, and are true leaders. See you next
season for sure!

- Kimberly
