When can I join BOISE RunWalk?
Anytime you're ready to
have fun! Join anytime. No need to wait until a new
program begins. We'll put you into a group of friends.
I want to get
started running or walking again, but should I get in
shape first before I join you?
Don't wait.
You've been waiting all your life. We're ready to have
fun right now. Are you ready? Our members consist of runners
and walkers of all ages and abilities.
I'm not a member, do you allow
drop-ins?
Sure! Stop by for a visit anytime
before you decide to complete a registration form and
join the fun.
What is BOISERunWalk?
We are a group-supported distance training program for adults who
benefit from coaching and having fun while accomplishing challenging fitness goals.
Who should join?
Anybody
who has difficulty training alone, who has a gym
membership going to waste, anyone who needs
accountability, anybody who is slow, fast, old, young, slim,
overweight or age between 16 and 95. You! ( :
When is the RunWalk season?
Year round! Rain or shine. Where
is the training?
Boise meets In the winter at
Fort Boise Community Center, and in the summer meets
on the Boise Greenbelt.
Can
walkers participate?
Absolutely! Walkers are a
BIG part of our membership. Are you affiliated with a charity?
Nope. We
do support local community groups like Girls on the Run
(GOTR) and others too.
How did BOISE RunWalk come to
be?
After moving back home to Idaho from
Portland where Coach Steve trained with Portland Fit, he
wanted to bring to Boise's running and walking community
the group support system that helped him make positive
changes in his life. Plus, there was no way was he was
going to train for a marathon alone, without such a fun
program. So he started a group of friends... that's it!
This training program is a division of BlakeUSA
Corporation.
What group will
I be in?
In the summer we divide large groups into
small groups based on distance or pace. This helps our coaches
support you better. We'll help you decide the first
couple weeks of training based on minutes per mile, and
you can always move to different pace group after
talking to your coach. Always remember, beginners go
slow and easy when your coach tells you to go slow and
easy.
Can I train for a half
marathon?
You bet! Even a 5K, 10K, and full
marathon.
Why should I walk
or run slower than I'm capable?
Some need to
go slower because they are not experienced at
determining what their body can handle... especially at
longer distances. With experience you have the option of
training for speed.
In the beginning however, discover successful training
distances at a slower pace. Our program has people of all paces
and skill levels, slow and fast, who discover their pace
rather than force their pace and risk injury.
With experience, discover what your body can handle.
Until then, please listen to your coaches and slow down
if you are returning to the sport of running following a
long layoff.
What are the weekly
seminars?
We cover important topics such as
nutrition, cross-training and strategy most Saturday
mornings before or after your training effort. These
seminars take about 20 minutes and are intended to
introduce subject material, help you to start asking
questions, and steer you to the
BOISE RunWalk's Guide to Distance Training for Runners
and Walkers, First Edition, May 2006 - our official training
manual,
one of our professional partners
and other references. What
happens on any given Saturday?
Arrive ready
to have fun. In the summer, arrive 15 minutes early prior to your start time.
In the winter, arrive at the designated time indoors.
Talk
with your coaches and discuss your training issues. Go
out with your coach and group, and finish with stretching and a seminar topic.
This is a typical Saturday morning, often times
including free massage and access to physical therapists
and other professionals. It's all about the
relationships you build during a structured training
program. We enjoy meeting afterwards for
coffee too.
Do we get discounts on shoes?
You bet! And other great merchandise and services
too!
You must be kidding.
All this for these low prices?
Some of the
best value for your money you'll ever find.
How can I sign up?
Online, by mail, in-store... we're flexible.
How much does it cost?
Between $90 and $135 depending on the length of program.
What is included in the
fee?
Coaching, clinics and seminars, group
support, access to personal consulting by doctors of
physical therapy, occasional free body-work massage,
beautiful Boise training routes in the hills and on the
greenbelt... and the best reasons to get out of bed
early on a Saturday morning!
Why do you need my email address?
Simply put... convenience. During your training
program, we send the most useful and beneficial SPAM
likely to hit your Inbox. Training schedules, start
times, seminar info, upcoming events... and our privacy
policy prohibits the sell of your address, and you may
unsubscribe. Without email, you will need to visit this
website each week, and the discussion page for your source of
information on where to meet, times, distances, extra
events, etc. We post each weekly email update on the
discussion page too.
I don't use the internet. Now what?
Find a friend who can pull the information for
you, or head to the library or a local coffee shop that
has wireless access. Your schedules and
information are available on the website and email only.
If you call and ask, we'll even send you a schedule by
mail.
Can
you show me how to use the discussion page and your
website?
Absolutely! Give us a call.
Where are the in-person sign-up
sessions?
Often times at
Idaho Running Company,
Shoreline Park and various other locations.
Can I pay with a
credit card?
Yes, online.
I can't make it
to the first weekend -- should I still sign up?
You bet!
Does entry into
BOISE RunWalk include entry into the specific events too?
No.
How much training time does this program involve?
Depends on you, what your suited for, and how experienced you
are. Really!
Most generally, you'll run/walk three times during the week for 30-40
minutes each time, then do your longer distance with us as a group on
Saturdays. People with busy schedules can fit this type of training into
their lives fairly easily. Hey, changing your life and working on
feeling and looking better takes some time.
What does 20 on
the weekly schedule (during the week) mean?
Are we running 20 miles? The numbers on the schedule in the weekdays are minutes of
training, not miles.
Must I attend every
Saturday?
We do not take attendance. You lead a busy life, take vacations,
get sick, sleep in (ooops!)... we understand... heck, only some people attend
EVERY Saturday.
Can we
participate in races during training?
You bet! Please consult with your coach if you have training
concerns.
What if I travel during my training? Can I take my
training schedule with me?
Yes. It goes wherever you go because it's on the net.
