contributions to active community wellness.

BlakeUSA Corporation to Active Community Wellness as part of
a long-term strategy of wellness contributions into our
community.
How did Active Community Wellness come to be?
Active Community Wellness, a nonprofit, was founded by Steve
Blake and a small group of friends to create a platform of
long-term sustainable growth of the training and wellness
programs of BOISE RunWalk.
What goals can I achieve with Active Community Wellness
and BOISE RunWalk?
Your fitness and wellness goals will be attained by
participating in our group programs which are based on
exercise, nutrition and group support. With BOISE RunWalk
you will be coached beginning with your current fitness
level to a new and improved level of fitness based on goals
you determine after consulting with your coach. Your goals
might involve weight loss, improved cardio, better
nutrition, seeking new friends, having more fun, or even
running your first marathon. Our exercise and nutrition
programs use walking and running and run-walking towards
target distance goals of 5K, 10K, half marathon and
marathon. Our goal for you is to help you stay injury free
and have as much fun as possible!
Why should I walk or run slower than I'm capable?
Some need to go slower because they are not experienced at
determining what their body can handle... especially at
longer distances. With experience you have the option of
training for speed. In the beginning however, discover
successful training distances at a slower pace which will
help you build a base of core fitness while staying injury
free. Our program has people of all paces and skill levels,
slow and fast, who discover their pace rather than force
their pace early on and risk injury. With experience,
discover what your body can handle. Until then, please
listen to your coaches and slow down if you are returning to
the sport of running following a long layoff.
What are the weekly seminars?
We cover important topics such as nutrition, cross-training
and strategy most Saturday mornings before or after your
training effort. These seminars take about 20 minutes and
are intended to introduce subject material, help you to
start asking questions and begin the journey up the amazing
learning curve into the body of knowledge.
Is there a training manual?
Our publication, BOISE RunWalk's Guide to Distance Training
for Runners and Walkers (1st Edition), contains much of the
information covered during the season, and is an optional
manual that is very useful for beginners and intermediate
skill levels. You appreciate the chapters on nutrition, form
and technique, cross-training, weight training and strategy.
Here is a
preview
of the 73 page publication that sells for about $18.
What happens on any given Saturday?
Be sure to consult your training schedule for times and
locations. Arrive ready to have fun. In the summer, arrive
15 minutes early prior to your start time. In the winter,
arrive at the designated time indoors. Talk with your
coaches and discuss your training issues. Go out with your
coach and group, and finish with stretching. A seminar is
held prior to the workout, or after the workout, depending
on the time of year.
This is a typical Saturday morning, often times including
free massage and access to physical therapists and other
professionals. It's all about the relationships you build
during a structured training program. We enjoy meeting
afterwards for coffee too.

Thank you BOISE RunWalk! The positive attitudes each morning and all
the work you coaches do is appreciated. Thanks for the encouragement
throughout our 15.5 miler. Your positive comments and smiles along
the route helped give the boost needed to get through the entire
workout. Coaches greeting us at the end with congratulatory smiles
and positive words helped add to the personal feeling of
accomplishment. When I signed up for the program, I had no clue of
what I had gotten myself into - but it has all been positive and I
sincerely appreciate the coaches and fellow participants. It is
great to see so many different people with different personal goals
come together and lend each other positive support. Thanks so much
for promoting this positive and fun training program and the
incredible group dynamics. Thanks!
