Meet Russ Freestone and try Schulman Therapy during your free 10-minute treatment on Saturday mornings with BOISE RunWalk.
There’s nothing more disappointing than having to cut back, or worse, discontinue your favorite sport or activity because of an injury. You can avoid injury, and even recover faster from an injury with Schulman Therapy. Stop by my table each Saturday morning with BOISE RunWalk and let's talk about how your training is coming along.
What is Schulman Therapy?
Different than massage, Schulman Therapy is a unique method of deep-tissue bodywork developed over 65 years ago by physical therapist·Nathan Schulman to release deep tension in the body. Schulman Therapy is highly effective in maintaining the proper flexibility needed in the muscles to avoid injury. Many use Schulman Therapy for support during training and for rehab of an injury.
Even if you are injury free, Schulman Therapy can help improve your performance by releasing restrictions in your muscles·and joints caused by tension in the soft tissues. Schulman Therapy is deeper and more therapeutic than other forms of deep-tissue bodywork. This is because it combines deep pressure with a unique stretching action to restore the healthy flexibility in your body. Schulman Therapy also is less painful because the therapist uses the side of his arm which is not as sharp as a thumb or elbow.
How does Schulman Therapy work?
Our muscles can get gradually tighter and tighter, especially when under the stress of athletic performance or sports activity and workouts. When the muscles stay tight, even after stretching and rest, they reach a state of tension known as hypertonic spasm. This is a 24-hour-a-day tension that interferes with normal blood flow, pinches nerves, places strain on our joints, and does not allow muscles to perform to their fullest. This condition is an injury waiting to happen because, even with proper warm ups and stretching, the muscles and other connective tissues are too tight to work properly.
Schulman Therapy is designed to release this deep tension and this therapy can help you avoid injury in the first place. Or, if injury has already occurred, it will relieve the underlying tension that caused the injury. By improving the flexibility of· the soft tissues, normal blood flow returns, pressure on the nerves is relieved, and joints are no longer under prolonged tension. Once the muscle tension is released and circulation is restored, our bodies can heal themselves. You’ll be back at your favorite sport in no time.
