Details
Your Winter training program provides group support and coaching for 14 weeks on the way to Race to Robie Creek Half Marathon or the Famous Idaho Potato as the two primary target race events. You’ll also have a 10K training schedule to prepare for many 10K events. Walkers and runners, slow or not slow, big or small, everyone goes the distance with BOISE RunWalk!
Marathon 26.2 miles - Famous Potato
The marathon training plan starts at 10 miles on January 7 for runners and walkers. One of the biggest challenges coaches have is getting inexperienced runners to approach the first 5 weeks at low intensity while focusing on core strength and flexibility. You have plenty of time to add speed training once you have built a base of low miles and freedom from injury. During the first 5 weeks, focus on core strength, nutrition and making new friends, all while running very conservatively.
Half Marathon 13.1 miles - Robie Creek or Famous Potato
Your half marathon training plan starts at 2 or 3 miles January 7 for runners and walkers.
10K 6.2 miles - Famous Potato (et al)
The 10K training plan starts at 1 mile January 7. Many people enjoy training for the 10K and this program provides people an opportunity to re-introduce themselves to running after a long, very long layoff. The 10K programs is also perfect for walkers learning to run and everyone who wants to prepare for a half marathon program in the Spring or Summer.
Routes
All routes will be on the hills and the greenbelt, alternating each week beginning the 4th week. All groups share common routes with coaches; routes include coolers when necessary, and restrooms or portable toilets starting week #4.
Saturday Morning Agenda
Meet at 8:00am at Fort Boise Community Center in January through mid February when we switch to meeting at 7:30am. Most mornings we will hold group coaching discussions where we coach you on important training topics using a question/answer format. These discussions last 20-30 minutes before we warm-up and head out on the routes.
